The honest rule of thumb

If the repair costs less than half the console's replacement price — and for current-gen consoles it almost always does — fixing wins. A PS5 HDMI port, a Switch charging port or an overheating cleanup are all fractions of replacement cost, and you keep your storage, saves and settings.
