What to check before coming in

A few things are worth trying at home first. Eject the disc and inspect both faces for deep scratches — a badly scratched disc may fail while others work fine, so try a second known-good game to confirm. Check that the console is upright and level on its stand; the Series X drive is designed for vertical orientation, and a loose stand can let the console tilt enough to cause intermittent misreads. Ensure the console's software is fully up to date (Settings → System → Updates). If the console accepts the disc and then immediately ejects it with a click, or if it shows a spinning load screen that never resolves, the drive needs attention — these symptoms don't resolve on their own.

When the drive needs professional repair

Bring it in if any of these apply: the drive grinds or clicks on disc insertion; the console accepts discs but shows an 'unrecognized disc' or 'insert a disc' error even with a known-good game; the drive tray doesn't move at all; or you've tried multiple discs and none of them load.
